Classic Chess Board with Luxury Pieces

A luxury chess board that can simply stay out between games.
The board runs from cream white to deep dark, with golden squares in between that catch the light. On a coffee table or in an open cabinet it looks good, even when nobody is playing.

The thirty two pieces have the familiar classic shapes, with a gold coloured ring on the base and a gold coloured detail on top. From a distance you can see at once which piece is where, and that helps during a long game.

✅ How to set up a chess board

Place the board so that the light square is at the bottom right. On the row closest to you, from the outside in, come the rook, the knight and the bishop, then the queen and the king, and after that bishop, knight and rook again. The eight pawns stand on the row in front. The queen always starts on her own colour.

What does a chess board look like?

A chess board is square and consists of alternating light and dark squares. Unlike draughts, play takes place on all the squares, not only on the dark ones. The board is placed correctly when the square at the bottom right is light in colour for each player.

The set up: where do the pieces go?

The pieces stand on the two rows closest to each player. On the back row, from the outside in, stand: the rooks in the corners, next to them the knights, then the bishops, and in the middle the queen and the king. The queen stands on her own colour, the king next to her. The row in front is completely filled with pawns.

White starts. Pawns move straight forwards and capture diagonally, rooks move in straight lines, bishops diagonally, the queen both, and the knight jumps in an L shape and may jump over other pieces while doing so.
